YARNER STUDIO - ZEN PHILOSOPHY ON $$$ AND RECORDING:

The recording industry has changed a HUGE amount since I took my first audio classes in the early 90's and even more in the past couple of years. Technology has simplified tasks that used to require a great deal of knowledge, skill and expense which has leveled the playing field for creative people who have even just a passing interest in recording music.

The value of working with an experienced audio recordist has changed and a lot of hybrid studios and home-studios have popped up that can offer great results. Commercial studios have also had to make adjustments in pricing to compete with these small studios so it follows that there are more options than ever for recording small music projects at affordable rates. It's important to do as much research as possible about local studios and recording resources to find the right fit for your project.

Why Yarner?

1. Let your size decide... Yarner is a small, one-room home-studio that doubles as a control room and a recording room. The size of the room is 11' x 19' and is pretty comfortable for single musicians or duos. If you're planning to do live tracking, trios can work too with a little bit of a squeeze and bands of 4 people are the absolute max the room can handle with a tight fit. *There are some separate spaces in the house for isolating guitar amps.

2. Let your ears decide... Does the Yarner style of recording and gear fall into the category of sounds you're hearing in your head for your project? Click the 'AUDIO' link above and check out some recent Yarner projects to help you make that decision.

3. Let your budget decide... What's your budget for the whole project? Yarner charges by the song or by the project unless you specifically request an hourly rate. A lot of small studios charge by the project these days and that approach makes a lot of sense so that you won't have to watch the clock constantly while trying to get your best work recorded.

4. Let your calendar decide... what's your deadline? Yarner is a small studio inside a private home in a residential neighborhood and thus there are some limits on the hours available and the possibilities for live takes (whole band playing at once). This means more time involved in getting bigger sounds but if your schedule allows for the extra time, the savings in cost may be worthwhile.

5. Personalities do matter... Yarner is owned and run by a human being (crazy, right?) - while thinking about recording here, PLEASE read the BIO information linked above to get more insight on the person you would be working with.
