Yarner Studio is Dawn Dineen and Dawn Dineen is me!
Music is my first love... mom says I could play nursery rhymes on my toy piano before I could talk. When I was six my aunt tried to sing me to sleep with lullabies and when it didn't work she asked me to sing one... To her surprise I launched into "Rock'n Me" by the Steve Miller Band.
I also fell in love with audio recording at an early age; when I was seven I got my first cassette-tape recorder and for years I walked around recording everything from sneezes to skits, random vocals, to interviewing every family member at Thanksgiving dinner. I also used to set it next to our TV during the show "Solid Gold" and during MTV's first music-video broadcasts, making my own 'mix tapes' of
classic 80's music like the song "AEIOU, Sometimes Y." by Ebn-Ozn.
School-band lead to some dabbling in violin, trumpet, flugelhorn and clarinet. When I was 16 I picked up my dad's guitar, strummed it and realized it was something like a Ouija board with strings; magically channeling the universal
tortured rocker!! THUS began my love affair with making my own music and I have been writing songs and performing in bands and as a solo act ever since. I've also added bass and drums to my rock-instrument pursuits and am still evolving.
Writing and performing my own music and having a curiosity about recording eventually lead to a stint of formal audio training in the mid 1990's at the Omega Studios' School of Applied Recording Arts & Sciences.
Once I got my hands on some good microphones and other studio toys, I didn't look back. I've been recording and mixing my own music since then as well as working with
other artists in a variety of studio settings and live environments, in both an informal and professional capacity. I've also had lots of 'day-jobs' relating to recording including several years as an audio technician at the US Capitol, recording and setting live audio feeds of Congressional hearings and news conferences.
As a studio engineer, I'm very open to different kinds of music and approaches to creating music. I know what it's like to be on 'both sides of the microphone' and my goal is always to make a comfortable working environment for my clients, keeping sessions efficient but relaxed.
